September 2010

Here are a few ideas for GREAT times in the Kenosha Area this month!

1. Enjoy a tasty breakfast or lunch at Franks Diner. Then, before Sept 26, vote for Chris Schwartz, owner and operator of Franks Diner. She's one of 18 finalists to compete in the national "Nightline People's Platelist" Contest.

2. Bring your pooch to one of Kenosha County's three new dog parks.

3. Season 37 kicks off for the Lakeside Players on Friday, Sept 10. "And Then There Were None", the Agatha Christie mystery comedy, runs through Sept 25.

4. Through Sept 30, adults age 50 or better, are invited to take part in the Got Crayons, Kenosha? coloring contest, sponsored by Pollard Gallery. Click here for details (keyword: crayons).

5. There is still time to register your kids for the Kids Bowl Free program at Guttormsen Recreation Center. It runs through Sept 30.

6. Take a leisurely stroll through Kenosha's four National Register Historic Districts. The Third Avenue and Library Park ones are especially beautiful in the fall when the leaves start to turn.

7. Climb the lighthouse at the new Southport Light Station Museum on the weekends.

8. On Second Saturday (Sept 11), visit several of Kenosha's Downtown, Harborside and Union Park district businesses for an evening of music, art, and food, preceded by Twilight Market.

9. Ride the newly renovated ATV trail at Richard Bong State Recreation Area! Loop 1 now has challenge routes built in allowing a rider the options to go over or through managed water features, log routes, and rock crawls.

10. Ride Kenosha’s Electric Streetcars along our scenic Lake Michigan shoreline to three museums, two historic districts, special events, and downtown shopping & eating opportunities.

13. Hunt for bargains on Sundays at Wilmot Mountain Flea Market.

14. It's not too late to go camping this year at Happy Acres Kampground. The latter part of September features discounts.

15. Swing over to Brighton Dale Links or Petrifying Springs Golf Course for a pleasurable golf outing. The Packers vs. Bears Golf Challenge is Sept 26. You must pick a side!

16. Stroll through the halls of Durkee Mansion on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The mansion, at Kemper Center, was built in the 1860’s on Lake Michigan.

17. Kids can play and exercise at the same time, no matter what the weather may look like outside, at Monkey Joe’s, an indoor inflatable play center.

18. Gather the family and ride the free Jelly Belly Express train inside Jelly Belly Center.

19. Visit the Civil War Museum Special Exhibit: "It's a Grand Old Flag".
